Woodstock Travel Guide

by our United Kingdom expert Terry Emery
Terry EmeryThe original Woodstock Palace was a Royal Residence that also served as a prison for Elizabeth I before her succession. Subsequenly it was destroyed during the Civil War and later rebuilt as Blenheim Palace, home to the Dukes of Marlborough, UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpeice of the rare English Baroque style. The town of Woodstock itself is also worth exploring for its various 17th century buildings, including a house once lived in by Geoffrey Chaucer.
