StHelier Travel Guide

by our United Kingdom expert Terry Emery
Terry EmerySt Helier is the main town and administrative centre of the ‘bailiwick’ of Jersey. An excellent port for centuries, the immediate harbour area is currently undergoing something of a renaissance. The Victorian Central Market is always interesting and shows off the island’s produce (including a local wine). The year’s big event is still the Battle of Flowers held in St Helier for over a century now - in mid-August, so book accommodation early. There’s a Grand (day time) and Moonlight parade with street performers and highly decorated floats - though these are no longer broken into floral components to hurl at the crowds - culminating in spectacular fireworks.
