Guernsey Travel Guide

by our United Kingdom expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanThe Channel Islands have a somewhat complex status, being part of the British Commonwealth rather than the United Kingdom. Guernsey is one of the two ‘bailiwicks’ and includes the smaller islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm. Their sheltered position makes for arguably the best climate in the British Isles and the proximity of mainland France makes for a highly appealing blend of culture and especially cuisine - notably gorgeous sea-food - to go with wonderful unspoilt beaches and gently-wild countryside. Occupation during WWII left a few physical and emotional scars but Guernsey is a highly rated, slightly old-style holiday destination.
