KaleKoy Travel Guide

by our Turkey expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanThis is the modern name for the village based on the ancient town of Simena, on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, used by the Romans and the Byzantine Empire. A much-photographed sarcophagus stands just into the water from the quayside, which also has some good fresh-fish cafés and sea-view bars. The Kaleköy name means ‘castle-village’ so unsurprisingly there’s a Byzantine fortress overlooking the waterfront harbour.
