SanlucardeBarrameda Travel Guide

by our Spain expert Conrad Freethy
Conrad FreethyThe ancient city of Sanlucar de Barrameda is famed as the departure point for various Spanish conquistador expeditions including Columbus and Magellan. In more modern times it has become known as a centre for sherry production, horse racing, and flamenco dancing. But if you are seeking natural wonders, the town’s location at the mouth of the Guadalquivir makes it an excellent base for exploring the nearby Doñana National Park. Here lies the Marisma de Hinojos (Salt Marsh of Fennel Plants) which many believe to be site of the lost city of Atlantis.
