Paszkowka Travel Guide

by our Poland expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanPaszkowka, the village, is on the fringes of Krakow in southern Poland and most visitors will head for the Palace Hotel. Set in its own handsome park, this is used as an out-of-town refuge from the industrial bustle of Krakow itself but also as a well-appointed jumping off point for two notable localities. Wadowice is the birthplace of Pope John Paul II and, very attractive in its own right, is acquiring almost pilgrim status as a result. A grimmer but incredibly worthwhile pilgrimage is to nearby Auschwitz, the WW II concentration and death camp. An immensely moving experience that leaves any visitor deeply affected and with much to think about. The Poles deserve much praise for creating the museum, preserving the almost tangible pain of the past.
