Halkidiki Travel Guide

by our Greece expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanHalkidiki is a trident of peninsulas into the northern Aegean, south of the town of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second city, which is the main arrival point for travellers to the region. The three narrow forks (Mount Athos, Sithonia and Kassandra) have a mass of gulfs and inlets with superb golden beaches that give the area the feel of a Greek island but not quite cut away from land (so no need for ferries). There are a number of extremely attractive resorts - such as Hanioti - but many traditional villages and tiny fishing ports as well and there has been a genuine effort to make ‘development’ more appealing than on some locations.
