DodecaneseIslands Travel Guide

by our Greece expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanThe Greek Dodecanese islands (about 160 of them) are in the southern half of the Aegean sea, and well to the east - closer to Turkey than the Greek mainland in fact. There are a dozen larger islands (the group name means twelve) such as Rhodes, Samos, Lesbos and, very popular with tourists, Kos. The islands have a benign climate and a fascinating mixture of idyllic beach and other natural attractions with tradition and history - there are many Trojan, Persian, Venetian and more recently Italian and French influences easily visible.
