The northernmost tip of Corsica is the Cap Corse peninsula which was almost an island until Napoleon III built a road to open it up - to the gratitude of modern tourists. The tiny fishing village of Centuri-Port was visited in the 18thC by Dr Johnson biographer and inveterate traveller James Boswell, recommended for its beauty and tranquillity. Little has changed and it is much favoured by artists for its clear light and picturesque architecture and countryside. A good family location, although the local beach has its limitations, and still a real fishing port.
