Lyon Travel Guide

by our France expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanRoughly mid-way between Paris and the Mediterranean, Lyon has been a provincial capital since Roman times. Its silk industry created prosperity (there’s a well-endowed Fabric Museum); local notables, the Lumière brothers, created the world film industry (there’s a thriving Institut showing current and classic movies); adjoining Beaujolais and Cotes du Rhone wine regions helped create a phenomenal gastronomy culture (High Priest - Paul Bocuse). And the countryside’s onion crops defined ‘Lyonnaise’ for menus world-wide. It’s an important business and cultural centre … but really the food’s the thing.
