Ajaccio Travel Guide

by our France expert Paul Baderman
Paul BadermanThe capital of the island (itself a Région of France) and the birthplace of Napoleon, Ajaccio on the SE coast has been a thriving port for centuries. Ferries go to mainland France and the Italian island of Sardinia as well as local fishing and tourist excursions - the native Corsican language is closer to Italian than French. Not perhaps the most attractive of towns, it has many interesting links with the Napoleonic dynasty, including a museum, while the island itself offers excellent walking, with trails through aromatic herb brush and exceptional bird life.
