TheValley Travel Guide

by our Anguilla expert Terry Emery
Terry EmeryThe eel-shaped island of Anguilla (hence the name) is one of the northernmost of the Leeward Islands in the British West Indies. The main town, boasting around 1,000 permanent residents, is The Valley which is where the airport is, unless you fly in to the neighbouring St Maarten, a short ferry trip away across the Anguilla Channel. The island is for holidays … and that’s about it. A complete coastline of idyllic tropical beaches - a ‘best ten’ list to choose from indicates the scope - from quiet/secluded to water-sports, with only a handful that are good-to-look-at-but-not-swim-from. Where there are beaches, there’s great seafood and the evening stroll to the restaurant of choice is far easier than deciding between lobster and grilled marlin. (For a lunchtime change, try one of the many chicken’n ribs barbecue shacks.)
